Why 10?

Where our name comes from says a lot about who we are and what we stand for. In ancient Greece, 10 was the Pythagorean symbol for perfection and completeness. As history unfolded, the number 10 became a symbol of success  and achievement, often associated with good luck and prosperity. This concept, in large part, remains true today across cultures, business rubrics and language. For example, in elementary school, a gold star might be rewarded for 9 out of 10 or 10 out of 10 early on, before you are graded on a scale of 100. Cultural idioms of 'that was a 10 performance,' and you're a '10 out of 10' hold significance in the symbolism of success and achievement. Further, 10 is the base of the decimal numeral system, by far the most common system of denoting numbers in both spoken and written language.

Language is at the core of the work we do and numbers are definitive of our success and certainly the success of our partners. For our female Founder and Vice President, 10 is both a foundational concept and a place. The two established their working relationship at a charming white house in Atlanta that was located at the address, 10 Vernon Road. The charm of the house, the memories made and the work accomplished laid the groundwork for 10 Atelier.

Our Story

The Atelier was born out of a passion for storytelling and connecting interesting people together. We bring a range of experience and a shared love for entertaining to each partnership.  While there wasn't one single origin to this story, a strong root can be found in the gardens of Versailles, particularly those of the Petit Trianon. The Pavillon Frais, or the cool salon, is an idyllic single room structure faced in charming lattice work that is positioned amongst a series of parterres. The pavilion was designed under the reign of Louis XV for his mistress Madame de Pompadour to host luncheons, dinner parties - any occasion to escape the heat and enjoy a fresh meal from the gardens with friends. The structure was well appointed with black and white marble floors, exquisite textiles and enough seating for 20 guests...it is charming, intimate and full of joie de vivre character. Our founder happened upon the pavilion in the dead of winter while ambling through the gardens of Versailles. She had forgotten about its existence, after spending her academic life in the royal French archives; an art historian by undergraduate and graduate training, her focus was on the history of entertaining as influenced by the 18th Century French court at Versailles. The reintroduction to the pavilion on a cold wintery afternoon was on some level transcendent. Fast forward many months later, the Pavillon Frais served as the inspiration for 10 Atelier's pavilion logo. Designed as an illustrative model of our hospitality and a place where creative ideas are shared, it is the experience of inviting our partners in - as if to our own homes - that the foundation of our story is built upon.

The art of telling a good story or sharing a compelling narrative, is in our opinion, very akin to effortlessly hosting a diner party. How so? Both actions require thoughtfulness, creativity and a mastery of pairing details just right. Our story is driven by our mission to offer a curated experience, detail driven results and build professional relationships for you and your team that have the aura of true friendship. We believe that life is worth thoughtfully celebrating, there are exquisite stories to be told and more can be productively accomplished sometimes through a conversation shared over a cup of coffee or glass of champagne than in any other scenario. Wherever you are in your business journey, we invite you to be a part of ours and see the ways in which a collaboration inspires and pushes us both to new heights...
